Deep Packet Inspection Suite
|
ECLA has developed a complete suite of Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) modules and cores.
The block diagram below, illustrates the interconnection of the DPI suite to a higher-level software application (customer developed) and to the CI block.

Why DPI?
DPI enables ISP and access providers
- to identify the content of packets
- to identify and moitor specific traffic streams and traffic flows that particular applications generate(Traffic shaping)
- to detect and determine the applications that their users and sunscribers are using
- to monitor and manage the peer-to-peer traffic (Bandwidth management)
- to increase network security by enabling the removal or viruses, spam and malware
- to deploy new services and new network management tools
- to monetize the flow of bits in the network
- and most importantly better management of the investment by limiting the increase in the buildup of the ISP infrastructure.
What function does our DPI suite support?
Our DPI products performs multiple functions:
- Monitor network traffic on per user/subscriber basis.
- Detect the application the user/subscriber is using, even if the application is not native and is running under HTTP.
- URL detection and filtering.
- Apply newtork security, such as Intrusion Detection/Protection, Virus detection, Malware detection
- Perform network protocol and behavioral analaysis.
What Applications does our DPI suite detect?
Below is a sample of the applications and application types that are detected:
| Category |
Application Example |
| TCP/IP |
Telnet, FTP |
| VoIP |
Skype, SIP Vonage |
| Email |
POP, IMAP, SMTP, Exchange |
| Webmail |
Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo |
| Instant Messaging |
AIM, MSN, Skype Chat, Google Chat |
| Peer-to-Peer |
Bit Torrent, Emule, EDonkey, Kazzaa, Gnutella, etc. |
| Video |
H.323, RTP, RTSP< You Tube |
| HTTP Application |
Google Documents, eBay, HTTP, Facebook, etc. |
| Online Games |
|
What does our DPI suite report?
Different reports can be generated by the high level application that is controlling the DPI Suite.
Some of the data we extract, and provide to the high level application is listed below:
- Source and Destination MAC adress
- Source and Destination IP addresses
- Source and Destination TCP ports
- Protocol
- Flow ID
- Application ID
- URL
- Logins
- Email Addresses
- Mobile ID (IMEI etc.)
- Billing details
