Youth Driving License Support in 2026: Every Solution to Fund Your License

Getting a driving license remains, even today, one of the first barriers to independence for young people in France. In 2026, the average cost of a driving license in France sits around €1,800, across all types of driving schools a budget few young people can cover on their own. Yet that famous little pink card is often the key to a first job, an internship, or simply a freer life.

At Ecla, we know this reality well: in our coliving residences, we welcome young professionals, students, and apprentices every day French and international alike who are looking to gain independence as soon as they move in. That’s why we’ve partnered with Ornikar to make it easier for our residents to get their license, and why we’re breaking down every youth driving license aid available in 2026, before telling you about our exclusive promo code and the ongoing contest to win a complete license package.

Why Getting a License Remains a Barrier for Young People

The reality is clear: access to a driving license widens social inequality. 74% of young people whose parents are among the wealthiest 20% of households hold a driving license, compared to only 51% of young people from the poorest 20% of households. Without adequate transportation options, a quarter of 18- to 30-year-olds have already given up a job opportunity, and more than one in two have had to cut back on their social life and leisure activities.

Good news: several support schemes exist to lighten the load.

Youth Driving License Aid Available in 2026

1. Local Aid: The Most Reliable Route for Under-26s

If you’re under 26, the most common forms of aid are local: mission locale (local employment support centers), department-level funds (youth funds), regional aid, and sometimes city halls (license grants). The most common requirement is that the license fit into a broader integration plan (training, apprenticeship, job search).

Specifically:

  • The FAJ (Youth Assistance Fund): departmental aid for 18- to 25-year-olds facing financial hardship, with amounts varying by department — generally between €500 and €1,000.
  • License grants: offered by some city halls and municipal groups, providing financial aid (usually €500 to €800) in exchange for volunteer work with an association or municipal service.
  • Regional aid, which varies significantly from one area to another.

💡 Our tip: always start with your local mission locale — it’s the fastest entry point into these schemes.

2. The €1-a-Day License

Available to 15- to 25-year-olds, the €1-a-day license takes the form of an interest-free, state-guaranteed loan. Borrowers repay the loan at a rate of one euro per day, making financing more manageable for many candidates — a solution that doesn’t reduce the cost of the license, but spreads it out over time.

3. The CPF: New Conditions to Watch

The Personal Training Account (CPF) has long been a go-to funding option, but the rules changed in 2026: as of February 20, 2026, CPF funding for the category B license is now reserved for jobseekers registered with France Travail (unless funded by an employer). A tightening of the rules that closes off this option for many young workers and students.

4. Watch Out: The End of France Travail Aid

Another important change to know about in 2026: France Travail’s category B license aid will be discontinued as of April 1, 2026, even though this scheme was long the most sought-after, offering up to €1,200. This makes local aid and alternatives like online driving schools — which offer more affordable rates — even more important.
